Artist's Comments

This is something I did for my mother.
I wanted to keep the original traces i did, even if they were a bit messy. And then I coloured it on photoshop.

I can't colour as I would like to, but I think I'm trying to improve. ^^;

Feel free to critique!! ^_^

I like the floral background and the colours in this piece. The colours work well altogether. You can't see much of the original traces, and what you can see, adds solidity to this piece. The expressions and stance are adorable too. :D

The mood of this drawing is really sweet, and I like how you added the textures. :3 The background texture goes especially well with the soft aspect of the drawing, too.

The only thing I can think of that you should work on is your anatomy. Hands are supposed to be more or less the same size as the face, so the mom's hands are much too small. The girl's feet also seem too tiny, and I think next time you should use a reference for that pose so you can see how the feet/ankles/blah look from the front perspective.

Alsoooo, it's good that you added wrinkles to the mom's dress. :3 I'd have linked to see some wrinkles in the girl's clothes too, unless she's wearing a plastic dress.

Thank you!
I never quite remembered that the hadns are actually the same size as the face, but now that you mentioned it, they really are! ^^
And you really got my weak points:hands, ankles, feet... especially from that point of view. I dont really use references, but I'll try to use them to improve my skills.

I wanted to make some wrinkles in the girls dress, but I thought that I wasn't going to make it look like I wanted to so I just left it the way it was! ^^;

Thank you very much for your comment! ^_^

No problem! :3

Hands and feet are my week points as well. X_X I'm getting better with hands now that I've started using references, so there's hope for me yet.

Critique for Critique-Me~

Okay, so this is a good picture. I can tell you're a budding artist, so don't take my constructive criticism too harshly.

The hair is nice, it's good to see that you differentiated strands with two different shades- but you might want to contrast them a little more. A bit darker and lighter and it might be more visible.

Next, you might want to clean up your line art a bit. Sketching is wonderful, but it looks a little strange when you make it digital. Tracing over the original sketch can sometimes help to create cleaner line art.

I hope this helps!

Thak you very much!
And be free to critique as much as you want. I tried to trace it, but it came of so bad that I decided that even if it looked a bit (or a lot ^^;) messy, I would keep it that way. The other thing that prevented me from doing that and to pay more care and attention to shading and all was the time. I did this in a few hours and I couldn't spent more doing it (I had to study! :( )

Anyway, thank you again for your critique! and yes, it helps!
